Wespath Benefits and Investments, the pension agency of The United Methodist Church, is providing financial support to 12 student pastors from Beni living in Kindu to help them make ends meet. The students receive $100 U.S. each month.
Unda noted that in the 10 years that the East Congo Episcopal Area has existed, “this is the first time that a DRC president has given a vehicle to a United Methodist bishop.
Funds from the United Methodist Committee on Relief’s International Disaster Response program helped purchase food and other supplies for people in Beni who have fled attacks in outlying areas.
“All people, United Methodists and non-United Methodists alike,” he said, “need to understand that this is a crucial moment. We must embark, without wasting time, in agriculture in order to produce more food and fight famine.”
With a new bicycle purchased through support from Crosspoint Church, a multi-campus United Methodist congregation in Northwest Florida, he now can get around easily and save travel time.
