Rebuilding straw churches in eastern Congo
So far, more than 12 churches have been renovated or rebuilt with stronger materials, so worshippers no longer have to worry about weather.
Plans vary to get annual conference business done
In the U.S., annual conferences typically take place in May and June. The California-Nevada Conference has been rescheduled from June to Sept. 18-21 at the Doubletree Hotel in Modesto, California. Social distancing will be practiced during the meetings, if government officials still recommend it at that point.
L’Église aide à former les femmes et les jeunes marginalisés
L’Église Méthodiste Unie de l’Est du Congo a collaboré avec le gouvernement congolais pour ouvrir un centre de formation professionnelle pour les femmes et les jeunes. L’évêque Gabriel Yemba Unda a déclaré qu’il avait recherché ce partenariat pour aider les fidèles de sa région épiscopale – dont beaucoup sont des femmes qui ne savent ni lire ni écrire ou sont victimes de violences sexuelles – à se donner une vie meilleure.
Church helps train marginalized women, youth
More than 100 women and 50 youth are receiving weekly training at a new vocational center that was built through a collaboration between The United Methodist Church in East Congo and the Congolese government.
Church helps war-displaced families in East Congo
The United Methodist Committee on Relief provided a $100,000 grant to distribute food to more than 5,500 people who fled their homes due to violence.
